There are lots of shuttle type runs out there and very good for conditioning both the mental and physical aspects of the athlete and game. Some coaches use them to test the psychological stamina of there players while improving there fitness levels, while others just don't have any other training tools in their arsenal so they go to the dreaded shuttle runs by default. Hey, no judgments here, you do the best with what you got, right? I'm all about training and reinforcing the actual speed movements and techniques of the game as much as possible in every drill or activity I have my players do. So, through some testing of my own and with a couple of trail runs with a handful of players I came up with what I call: The STSUA Super Shuttles Listen to the audio instructions for this drill right here:
What you see here is an advanced version of the Super Shuttles using tall cones but you can start them out with the short 21/2 inch cones and it works just as well. In fact if you are training younger players it's better to use the shorter cones.
