#1 - Chochi's Soccer Speed Training 'Drill of the Week' - Shuttle Runs Suck!... so lets improve on them. This drill of the week is an advanced form of the infamous "shuttle runs" that we've all done at one time in history.
Big Soccer Speed and Conditioning Announcement!
| I am going to take Shuttle Runs to a new level - more challenging, more useful and more effective than you've ever seen before! |
By the way if your players are cussing at you and moaning about how hard this conditioning drill is, you can blame it all on me!
I am like a Mad Soccer Speed and Conditioning Scientist with too much time on my hands!
| There are lots of shuttle type runs out there and very good for conditioning both the mental and physical aspects of the athlete and game.
Some coaches use them to test the psychological stamina of there players while improving there fitness levels, while others just don't have any other training tools in their arsenal so they go to the dreaded shuttle runs by default.
Hey, no judgments here, you do the best with what you got, right?
I'm all about training and reinforcing the actual speed movements and techniques of the game as much as possible in every drill or activity I have my players do. So, through some testing of my own and with a couple of trail runs with a handful of players I came up with what I call:
The STSUA Super Shuttles
Listen to the audio instructions for this drill right here:

What you see here is an advanced version of the Super Shuttles using tall cones but you can start them out with the short 21/2 inch cones and it works just as well. In fact if you are training younger players it's better to use the shorter cones.
Listen to the audio instruction above to get the entire background and intention for the set up and execution of the drill.
90% of the STUSA Soccer Speed System activities and drills force players into proper body position and invite proper technique and this is another example of what I call "The Science of Good Drills." I don't have time to go into it fully but the short of it is this:
|
The STUSA Science of Good Soccer Speed and Conditioning Drills."
A well thought out soccer speed training drill both invites and forces the athlete into the proper technique, position, thought process and/or movement pattern. |
